Synopsis

In Vingrau, a small village in the Pyrénées-Orientales region about 30 kilometers from Perpignan, the community is still torn apart by the battle over the opening of a quarry. Twenty years after the company's victory, I visit the site. Beyond the village, I discover the landscapes of my childhood ravaged by the extractive industries. Now reigning unchallenged over this territory, boosted by the financialization of the sector, quarries are multiplying. Since the last century, the volume of rock extracted has increased tenfold, reaching several million tonnes per year and threatening the equilibrium of Europe's largest drinking water reserve. Against this Dantesque backdrop, Claude, Renaud, Daniel and the others revive the story of their past struggle, a means of linking their story to the wider history of a land on borrowed time, while resistance is being revived on several local fronts.
